📚Everyone knows about the singable book “Going on a Bear Hunt” by Michael Wayne Rosen & illustrated by Helen Oxenbury…but did you know about their book, “Oh Dear, Look What I Got!”?

It’s also rhyming and conducive to a melody (club members can listen to mine on the site!) and I love the way it incorporates humor into each page. The main character is trying to buy a specific item at the shop, but the order keeps getting mixed up! At the end, he is able to exchange all of the mixed-up items for the ones he originally wanted :).

This singable book is perfect for rhyming awareness and for children to work on “yes/no” (i.e. the repeatable phrase in the book: “Do I want that? No, I do NOT!”)

☘️🎵“Rattlin’ Bog” is the perfect Irish folk song singable book to use for St. Patrick’s Day! Here are 5 ways I use it:

☘️1. SEQUENCING: “Rattlin’ Bog” is a cumulative song, meaning each verse adds to the previous one. What object did you see/hear about first in the Rattlin’ bog? Next? Last?

☘️2. LISTENING COMPREHENSION: Use laminated visuals (club members: these are available for you to download!) and put them in order on the floor. Step or wheel alongside the visual as they are mentioned in the song!

☘️3. MOVEMENT:  For an extra challenge, mix up the visuals and scatter them across the floor! It’s a real workout when you have to hurry to the next item in the book and it’s all the way across the room. I was SWEATING today 😂.

☘️4. CORE WORDS: Practice the core word “in” on AAC devices (the word is used in the book over 30 times 🤯! What a fun way to work on core words when it’s already naturally embedded in the song!)

☘️5. TEAMWORK: Working with a group? Teamwork makes the dream work!  Pass one visual poster to each student in the group and when they hear their “item” in the song, have them hold up the poster!
