I had the honor of asking Narwhals & Waterfalls all about their interactive flipbook, “The Zoo of Emotions” - from their brainstorming process, to recording the song, to publishing it with @fflatbooks … and everything in between!

All about the authors:

I’m Adrien Palmer, once a full-time pre-school music teacher until 2018 when we started Narwhals & Waterfalls. Since then, I’ve worked in creative agencies and in communications, and had my own Little in 2021, but always carve out time to work on and build N&W. 

I’m Paige Bell, an elementary school music teacher with 12 years of experience and a parent to two young children. I currently teach in a public school in Dallas, and I’ve also worked in charter and Montessori settings, performed at libraries and daycares as Narwhals & Waterfalls with Adrien, and led Social Emotional Learning workshops and professional development sessions around the country.

We started Narwhals & Waterfalls in 2018, and since then we’ve released three albums of Social Emotional Learning songs, published two works—Full Circle SEL, a curriculum, and The Zoo of Emotions, a children’s book—and continue to share our songs and curricula through our online resource libraries for educators and families.

Our “The Zoo of Emotions” book is based on our song “Let’s Go to the Zoo!”. We created a physical version, then re-released it as an interactive E-book in 2025. The illustrator for both was Karen Blocher.
