Props for Singable Books: Part 2

Welcome to Part 2 of my “Props for Singable Books” series!

Counting Cookies Set + “Who Took the Cookies from the Cookie Jar?

One of my favorite props ever! Use the cookies (bonus: they’re easy to clean!) alongside the book to work on counting, numbers, requesting, yes/no, me/you (“Who me? Yes, you!”), and more!

Catch and Count fish + “Go Fish!”

I love to use “Go Fish” as a way to work on the core word “Go”. Add this fishing prop to also work on numbers, sorting, and turn-taking.

Rhythm Sticks + “Two Sticks”

Tap along with this book with a pair of rhythm sticks! Get creative with where you play them (on a chair, on the floor, on the desk) and what rhythmic pattern you use. Bonus points if you use a toy alligator to play your sticks on, like they do in the book!

Pocket Cube Dice + “Waking Up is Hard to Do”

Pocket cube dice are extremely versatile and could be used with EVERY singable book! Fill the pockets with core words from the book, story element prompts, review questions…or anything else you can think of!

Sequencing cards + “The Jacket I Wear in the Snow”

This book is ideal for learning the concept of sequencing (what winter clothing did they wear first? Second? Last?). Try the skills they’ve practiced with the book with the sequencing cards!

Animal Movement Cards + “Doing the Animal Bop”

Here are some additional animal movement cards you can use pre- or post-reading! Have fun dancing and moving like animals!
