5 activities for Valentine’s Day
💌Before, after, or while you’re reading a Valentine’s Day singable book…try one of these 5 activities!
❤️Positive affirmation valentines: It’s important to love yourself! Write positive affirmations that go along with either the book (i.e. Little Blue Truck’s Valentine’s = “I am a good friend.”) or that accompany a song (I recommend, “I Love Me” by Miss Katie Sings, “I Can Do Things” by Music for Kiddos, or “Affirmation Song” by Snoop Dogg/Doggyland Kids).
❤️Heart pattern matching: Have the students draw patterns on a heart, then cut them in half. Separate the two halves and put in them in the mailbox (or scatter them throughout the classroom) and then see how many matches they can make! Find the matches while playing the song from Grease, “We Go Together”!
❤️Heart size sorting: Make small, medium, and large hearts and have the student sort them according to size while singing with small, medium, BIG voices!
❤️Draw a numbered heart and follow the directions: I like to have a sheet of paper with conversational/music questions numbered 1-10. When the student picks “2”, then they can ask question #2 to a friend, or answer it themselves!
❤️Pick a movement to do with the song: When you get to the “repeatable” phrase in the book, have them reach into the mailbox and pick a dance move to do! You can also spread these hearts around the room while dancing to a song and when the music stops, the pick up the heart they are closest to and do that movement!
📫Ps. Every single student I’ve worked with LOVES the element of “surprise” when it comes to using the mailbox in my sessions. The one pictured here is from Learning Resources and I also own a smaller one I bought in a dollar bin!
